Post-it Note #27

In which I summarise last week’s Daily Notes on the theme of Blogs.

And here they are…

In case you’ve forgotten where the term comes from, a Blog is a combination of the words web and log. But who invented the term?

Jorn Barger came up with weblog in 1997 and then Peter Merholz shortened it to blog 1999 and then Evan Williams popularised the use of the word as a noun and a verb!

My illustration today, Between a Rock and a Hard Place, is my biro drawing of a b(log) struggling to get out into the world, a tree trunk growing up between two rocks. That’s what creative work feels like sometimes!

Between a Rock and a Hard Place, my biro drawing is available as a giclee print from my Etsy shop https://zoeakroydparkerart.etsy.com/uk/listing/1682173957/caught-between-a-rock-a4-giclee-print-a

How often do you write your blog? Does anyone notice or comment if you skip an episode, like I did yesterday?

The answer is… it doesn’t seem to really matter, as long as you keep up with it.

My illustration today is one of my favourite watercolour drawings and I’m posting it because I like it.

Woman with sunglasses, watercolour illustration.

Why do people write blogs? I found thirteen reasons thanks to AI, but none is the main reason I write mine.

I write mine to improve my writing skills and to make sure I write something regularly.

Why do you write yours?

My illustration today is my signed drawing of my heroine Dame Zandra Rhodes, who encouraged me to keep doing what I’m doing.

Dame Zandra Rhodes, drawn by me in fine liner and signed by her in gold pen.

Who wrote the first Blog?

That’s right, Internet, it was Justin Hall in 1994 with his blog www.links.net, (link below)

and he’s still posting on it. It’s quite moving and worth having a look at.

My illustration today is my biro drawing of some kind of fairy creature, moving through time as if in her own blog. It’s available as a print at my Etsy shop.
